 Criteria for Membership in the Jamestowne Society 

Membership in the Jamestowne Society is by invitation and in accordance with by-laws of the Society.  A prospective member must demonstrate to our registrar-genealogist descent from at least one qualifying Jamestowne ancestor.  Qualifying ancestors' criteria:

 

  •  Members of the Virginia Company of London.

  • Those who owned land, or who had domiciles in Jamestowne or on Jamestowne Island, prior to the year 1700.  Because of the nature of their duties, all Governors, Secretaries of State, Treasurers, Attorneys General and Auditors General of the Colony, members of the Council of State and the House of Burgesses, and Clerks and Deputy Clerks of the General Court prior to the year 1700 shall be conclusively presumed to have had their domicile on Jamestowne Island during their terms of office.

  • Anglican Clergymen

Begin the application process by contacting a member of the Jamestowne Society or the 

Jamestowne Society Company most convenient to you and expressing your interest in becoming a member.  Prospective members must demonstrate descent from a Qualifying Jamestowne Ancestor to the satisfaction of the Society genealogist.
